00:00-06:40 Heralds and Denouncements
Basil: Gremlins (Still liked it a lot but slightly less than before)
Ilya: Salt of the Earth (Really liked visuals, not sure about movie)
06:40-09:00 Brief Plot Recap – Reuben
09:00-14:00 Liked It/Disliked It
Basil: liked it a lot, rewatched first two parts and liked both better, likes movies more the further removed he is from the books.
Ilya: liked it, enjoys cumulative experience of books + movies, liked propaganda/manipulation commentary and claustrophobic feel.
Patrick: loved it, in particular claustrophobic, intense feel of movie and solid, meaty character work.
Reuben: liked it but not as much as previous movies, compared to book movie left a bit wanting, didn’t like acting as much (reaction shots), doesn’t like portrayal of Katniss as a hero which is not the case in the books.
14:00-01:41:15 Highlights from Main Discussion
Propaganda and manipulation * Natalie Dormer’s great * JLaw’s singing * Mockingjay shows human cost of rebellion – rare for a blockbuster * Scenes not from Katniss’ perspective pay off in a big way this time * Peeta’s importance not clear from movies * District 13 are not the good guys * PSH’s performance not great * “Gale is such a punk bitch” * Elizabeth Banks also not great * Extended visual geography discussion * Ending probably best of the series so far!
